U.S. solar jobs drop 3.2% for two years in a row

Foreign reports quoted an industry report saying that jobs in the U.S. solar industry decreased by 3.2% in 2018, shrinking for the second year in a row. Analysis indicated that the job losses were mainly due to the Trump administration’s policies.
The solar industry employed 242,000 people last year, a decrease of 8,000 or 3.2% year-on-year, and a decrease of 10,000 jobs in 2017. However, the report expects employment to grow next year.
The Trump administration imposed a 30 percent tariff on imported solar panels in early 2018 to boost domestic manufacturing, but the policy prompted developers to cancel or freeze billion-dollar installation plans, leading to job losses.
